Kemira
The German subsidiary of the international chemicals group Kemira produces chemicals for water treatment at its Rheinberg site. To ensure consistent verification of driver training certificates for those loading chemicals at the self-service loading station, a digital driver management system was required. The goal: guarantee compliance with current safety regulations and increase process efficiency. The solution was developed and implemented by rising systems in close collaboration with Kemira Deutschland GmbH.

Challenges
In daily operations, external drivers load chemicals via a self-service loading station. Access is only permitted with a valid and up-to-date training certificate—critical both for regulatory safety requirements and for operational efficiency. However, the existing system used to manage these certificates was outdated, creating several operational and technical challenges:
- Outdated system without support: The legacy system was no longer state-of-the-art, lacked ongoing support, and required considerable optimization.
- Tracking training status: Before using the loading station, drivers must complete two types of training: an on-site safety introduction and an external e-learning module. Regular verification of training validity needed to be performed efficiently and reliably.
- Data transfer requirements: A complete migration of the existing driver base into the new system was essential. The historical training data needed to be preserved, and inconsistencies had to be cleaned up to ensure a seamless transition.
- Individual requirements: Kemira also required features such as systematic log-data analysis and the ability to archive or delete incorrect entries—capabilities that were limited or unavailable in the previous system.
Solution Approach
rising systems developed and implemented a customized driver management system tailored precisely to Kemira’s operational needs. The solution combines technological efficiency with user-friendly handling while maintaining strict standards for security, data protection, and scalability.
- RFID-based access control: Once drivers complete their initial training, they receive an RFID chip card used for identification within the driver management system. In the control room, staff can check the validity of training certificates in real-time.
- Training tracking: The system records and monitors the status of required training modules (on-site instruction and external e-learning).
- Data efficiency: Only essential personal data is stored (name, company, training certificates) to comply with data protection regulations.
- Legacy data import: A smooth migration ensured that all existing driver records and training histories were transferred without disrupting operations.
- User-friendly interface: The intuitive system was deployed without the need for extensive training. Minor adjustments were made quickly during the project as needed.
- Future-proof architecture: In the future, Odoo can be fully integrated into the management of training certificates, enabling further automation of manual processes.
Results & Added Value
The fast, efficient implementation combined with high customer satisfaction demonstrates the strength of modern driver management systems. The upcoming expansion to additional sites highlights Kemira’s trust in both the partnership and rising systems’ technology.
- Efficiency: RFID access and automated verification accelerate processes and reduce waiting times at the loading station.
- Safety: Central documentation and automated training tracking ensure complete compliance.
- Scalability: The successful implementation at Rheinberg sets the foundation for rollouts at additional locations—Kemira is committed to a long-term partnership with rising systems.
- Usability: The system is intuitive and ready to use immediately—no additional training required.
“The team can work with the driver management system easily and efficiently without extensive training. During the implementation, I was particularly impressed by how well the colleagues at rising systems understood our requirements. That’s why I decided to move forward with them on expanding our admin functionalities next.”
